Notting Hill & Ealing High vs Surbiton vs Channing – any insights?

Hi all,
We’re currently comparing Notting Hill & Ealing High School, Surbiton High School and Channing School for secondary (Year 7 entry) and would really appreciate any current parent or student insights.
Our daughter has sat the exams/interviews and we’re lucky to have a few options, but we’re trying to get a better feel for the day-to-day culture beyond league tables and open days.
A few questions I’d love to hear thoughts on:

  • How academic is each school in reality (pressure level vs supportive environment)?
  • How sporty is Surbiton High – does it feel dominated by sport/drama high achievers, or is it inclusive for more academic/quiet girls?
  • Notting Hill & Ealing High – does it feel less intense/more relaxed compared to some of the more “academic hot-house” schools?
  • Channing – how strong is the academic focus compared to the GDST schools, and what is the pastoral support like?
  • Socially, do girls mix well or are there strong cliques (especially with feeder juniors)?
  • Commute considerations – is the school day very long due to after-school activities / homework load?
We’re looking for a bright, kind environment with good academics but not too pressured, so any honest pros/cons would be hugely appreciated. Thanks so much in advance!

Channing os lovely and nurturing but certainly the last time I looked (which to be fair was about 10y ago), not terribly academic for a selective private school. Suspect the brightest leave at 11.
