IB results and university confirmations

Hi everyone

I’m after everyone’s experiences on whether universities confirmed places on IB results day or whether they wait until A-level results day?

DS1 is 50/50 whether he’ll get the grades for his first choice (he should only drop one point on HL based on predictions and mocks). We’re trying to plan when to go away on holiday so I’m wondering if it’s wise to be home on A-level day/clearing just incase? He has asked his tutor and contacted a few of the universities but all responses have been very vague!

If he gets his grades, his place will be confirmed on the IB results day. I realise that you are really asking about if he misses it an I’m afraid I don’t know the answer to that so that’s really unhelpful. I’m sorry 🤦‍♀️

Why would he then not get his insurance choice?

Clearing opens on 2 July this year, and from this date universities can accept Clearing applications and make admissions decisions on them.

So on 6 July, when IB results come out and university decisions are released for IB applicants, he'll be able to go into Clearing if he needs to. He will also be able to enter his Clearing choice in UCAS from 6/7 once he has permission from the university to do so. He doesn't need to wait for A level results release.

To add. If he’s just missed it, universities may wait to make a decision until A Level results day when they can see the field of candidates. I would go before IB results but after A Levels!

2 years ago, friend's DD missed her mark narrowly in IB and had to wait until A-levels results to see whether it was a yes or no for her top priority (oxbridge). She got the place in the end.
