Prep schools commutable from Carshalton (Borough of Sutton)

We plan to switch our DC to Prep, they are currently in state primary, only moving as we want a shot at the selective Grammars

Does anyone have knowledge of Prep schools within 20-25 mins drive, Husband WFH and we'd do breakfast club drop off and pick up at 5.

Starting in Y3.

Not interested in single sex or junior school of all through, just mixed Preps.

We have a few in mind, but would love to hear anyones thoughts of good prep schools for Carshalton locals.

No idea about prep schools, but plenty of DC do go to the grammar schools from state primary. My DS was one of them. We did get him a tutor in year 5, but that was a lot cheaper than prep school and he got to keep going to his local school with his friends. It's also worth noting that tutors tend to focus specifically on the grammar school exams, whereas prep schools will also be prepping for the private school exams.

That's the dilemma we are having, we'd love to save on fees, just tutor in a few years, but DC very much a follower, and my gut tells me in a classroom where everyone is aiming for selectives , it would greatly benefit placing early.
