Accept 7+ places or wait until 11+

We have places offered from the 7+ for my son & daughter at Hampton Prep & Lady Eleanor Holles. As both of these schools go through until 18 I would welcome views on whether it’s wise to accept the places with the possibility of avoiding the stress of the 11+ process for both children, or, remain in our excellent prep school which prepares children very well for secondary school exams. I would also welcome any views on these two schools both prep / juniors and the senior schools, especially LEH as I am more familiar with Hampton.

If you’re already in a prep (so paying fees) it seems a no brainier to take a through-school place. I don’t know Hampton well, but LEH is brilliant.

On the downside, they’ll swap friendship groups now. But they’ll do that in a few years anyway, AND have to contend with the stress of 11+ (and potentially no/ a less good place at the end of it!)

Depends on which excellent prep schools?

Depends where you live. Make your logistics easier as a parent. Having spent so many hours driving around for years I’d wished I’d of made my logistics easier. 2 children in the same location it’s a no brainer. I really loved Hampton never got the same vibe about LEH.

The 2 schools are fab. My daughter did go for 11 plus at LEH however we have now another place and won’t accept the place at LEH even if she gets accepted at 11 plus.

LEH sport teacher was exceptionally mean when I saw him coaching his LEH girls against another school very recently at lacrosse - quite frankly horrible to the girls. Really mean. I was really shocked. I was glad my daughter was at playing for her school. I didn’t think he should be a sports teacher he was very mean to the girls.

LEH toilets for the parents were very sub standard.

The assessment interview was very in personal and very clinical. In and out and nothing more. I mean you get more of a welcome in a regular GP appointment 🤣

My daughter said oh they have a south corridor and I’d get lost 🤣 it was a back up school for us.

If I had 2 siblings in both those schools yes it’s totally a no brainer however I personally didn’t like the area it was in (council / cheap housing) and also planes flying overhead. But that’s the joys of going to a school within the m25.

Hampton I love - totally 100% truly loved it - the boys the headmaster all fab - LEH I’m not sure on.

Suppose it depends what your plans are in life / where you want to live / if your child likes that catchment or would like to board etc.

LEH is a very strong school but it does depend on what prep you’re in ….

My first daughter never wanted to go after a visit and never wanted to sign up.
Second daughter had it as a back up option.

You have to work out what works for you logistically and whether your children would like it!
