Pleated vs straight school skirts?

At my daughters school they allow a choice of pleats or straight skirts. Daughter has always worn straight ones until now but is bugging me for a pleated one. Is this a trend?! The one she has now is a smart plain one, banner's s-cut style (S-Cut Straight Skirt) - would definitely recommend this one to other mums! Ultimately its daughters choice but is this a new trend? I thought pleats were out of fashion!

Is this high school? My child is still in primary but nearly all the kids in the nearby high schools wear pleated and often very short. It’s definitely a trend!

Pleats allow movement. My DD had pleats up til sixth form and really liked her uniform.
