School admin woes

I was having bit of a moan with a friend last week on the subject of school related admin. Almost every day last term there saw school comms comming out about something. Remembrance day events; Children in Need Day , Christmas Jumper day; costumes for school play etc... almost evey one requies an action of some sort. Consent for an activity, payment to be made , tickets booked and so on. DH will help but only when I explicity ask. He can see the notifications too but just assumes I'll deal with it.

In our house I also sort bookings for school dinners, after school clubs, and swimming lessons. All this is on top of other admin like sorting insurance, car tax , MOT . How do you divide these tasks in your household,? do you think the burden of household admin falls disproportionately on women ?

I deal with everything school related and out of school clubs (that’s 3 kids at 3 different schools in our case) and DH deals with all household related bills: mortgage, utilities, council tax etc plus the car stuff. Seems a fair split of admin tasks and I don’t feel I have more tasks than DH. Things like sorting plumbers and electricians etc will fall to whoever has time and likely to be around on the day they visit. My DC are all secondary age now so there’s a lot less coming from school compared to primary which, I agree with you OP, was often ridiculous in volume… I’m assuming your DC is/are primary age?
