Year 7 - Rushing work

My DS has just started secondary. He has always struggled with working with accuracy (e.g. reading questions properly, not rushing etc and generally wanting to get things done as quickly as possible). Now he has started secondary school which has been a step up, we are seeing multiple challenges across subjects and in his homework where rushing is causing problems such as thinking he has completed online homework but not taking the time to make sure answers are complete, getting questions wrong because he has not read the question fully and not reading all aspects of the homework set in the first place.

I try to talk to him and help him understand that rushing will result in more time needed in the long run but it’s very painful and even listening to me speak to explain seems to be a trial for him.

I know it’s up to him ultimately but does anyone have tips to help him work in a more methodical manner?

Thanks!
