Child Benefit: End Date/Do I contact?

Hello. I was wondering when do Child Benefits end after 18 year old is nearing the end of college. Should I contact HMRC? Or will payments automatically stop at a certain date?

I have read they stop on 31 August, other times I’ve seen I have to inform them of the end of course date. Is HMRC in contact with college to confirm this ? ? Thank you :-) Afraid of having to pay fines but have not read information/experience to confirm this is true.

I think it will stop automatically. Mine stopped for DS turning 16, and I've just looked up what me reactivating it said - and it's payable until early september, so several months after college finishes.

It’s definitely 31st August.

edited to answer properly! You will only need to contact them to extend (if staying on another year at college) but not to stop. It’s automatic.
