Kent grammar school admissions

Has anyone had any luck recently getting into Kent grammar schools living outside of Kent. We live in thurrock which is close to the schools but unsure if Essex has a chance even via waiting lists. We will move but it won’t be in time for the application as we didn’t want to move until we knew if he had passed. Any advice or experience is helpful. Many thanks

If you scroll down to the 'last year's allocations' pages, you can see that some of the further flung grammar schools were quite undersubscribed, so although the admissions criteria for most Kent grammar schools are based on passing the Kent Test, then oversubscription criteria very similar to those for the non-selective schools, including distance, even from Thurrock you would have got a place.

If what you are really only interested in is a place at the grammar schools which one might describe as being 'close to Thurrock', then your chance of getting a place at one of those is probably rather less (e.g. the Dartford grammar schools have a restricted number of places available purely on score rather than on score and living in a defined priority area, or being in a specific priority group).

Thank you that is really helpful information. We would move into the area but didn’t really want to without knowing whether he got a place and would take time to sell our house. Will find out today either way if he that’s an option or not.
