Hi all,
Im a worried Nanna who’s grandson has just started Harris Beckenham secondary school and he is struggling with the transition(he’s never before had any issues with school and is generally a happy sociable confident child). I was just wondering if any other families in the area are experiencing any concerns with their children at the same school? I am concerned that their methods (compared to other borough high schools) are placing too much burden on the kids at this delicate stage. Any experiences with this school?

It's common to find the transition to secondary school difficult - hopefully he'll feel better as he settles in more.

Has he said exactly what he's finding hard? Does he have any friends from Primary School in his class?

Some secondary schools have an early parents evening to discuss how children are settling in, but otherwise you (or his parents) could perhaps contact his form tutor?

I hope things improve for him soon.

I have a teacher friend who didn’t like Harris schools, but her DS ended up going to Harris Beckenham and she actually really liked it for him. He DD chose to go and it has also gone really well. The first settling in an adjustment can be a little challenging but it should get better.
