Anyone sent a child to board here at age 8? It is a possibility for DD and would be nice to hear people's experiances and opinions

How is the pastoral care? Are the academics as good as they say they are? What is the general atmosphere like?

And before anyone comes along having a go at me and DH for even contemplating boarding school we have not decided on anything definatively but both of us spent time at boarding school and loved it, DD actually mentioned going to boarding school and we know her best and are confident if she did go to the right school she would flourish!

thanks!

If you both went to boarding school yourselves why are you asking these questions? Surely you know ?

BellaDonna79 · 01/06/2008 20:55

we want to know about a specific school, the dragon school in Oxford, all our other options we have attended ourselves or have siblings, cousins, friends etc who went to them.
I'm sure schools vary greatly in their approaches!

I had a boyfriend who was sent to board at this school aged 7. If you asked him he would definitely say 'much too young'.

Sorry, got the wrong end of the stick - when you said 'here' I thought you meant the UK!

no worries mablemurple re Reading my op I can see why you could interpret it that way LOL

I had some great friends who went here.

However, I worked in an excellent residential educational centre (nothing to do with the Dragon School) and despite the pastoral care being excellent, I think most children are just too young to board at eight.

Another friend boarded from age seven (not at Dragon), and has firmly decided not to educate his own children in the same way.

Have friends whose dc's go to Dragon, but as day pupils. They are both happy there and really enjoy it.
I have to say that most folk i know who have boarded from age 8 ( or even younger in 1 case)think it was too young, 11 often still to be a bit premature.
