Hi mums,
I’m looking for some advice on how best to support my child as they prepare for the 11+ exam in Birmingham. What tips, resources, or strategies have you found most helpful — whether that’s practice materials, tutoring, or just ways to keep them calm and confident? I’d really appreciate hearing your experiences.
Also is the catchment area important?

Hi ya,

my son has been working through the 11 plus course- learning street, which we’ve found extremely helpful. We have also started atom learning, and that’s brilliant- though after the free 5 day trial it is around £70 a month

He also has tutoring once a week for around 1 hr 30 mins.

Overall it’s quite intense, not to forget that reading is very much encouraged too, so lots of reading on a daily basis (learning street provide a list of recommended books)

Are you prepping for independent or grammar? We are only doing independent prep in the hope of getting a scholarship- so catchment area isnt a requirement for us

good luck!

Have you tried approaching the school itself? They often recommend resources. However the best resource I found was from a school we never applied. Have a look at websites

@IAmMum85 thank you very much for the recommendation. My DC is in year4.We are going to start F2F tuition for once a week.I looked at Atom Learning it seems to be very good.
Also yes to the independent school. We are taking all of our chances.
Best of luck to your son.I know the exam is soon.
