Creative Writing Masters - is it worth it?

I've just 'retired' and want to return to university to study for an MA in Creative Writing. It's a huge amount of money to invest if it then doesn't meet expectations, and it's difficult to get a balanced view of people's experience, when those chosen to feature in marketing videos for universities may be incentivised in some way. Obviously courses vary, but can anyone tell me about whether they thought what they got out of the course was worth the whopping £12,500 or thereabouts...? Quality of teaching/supervision, experiences of interactions with fellow students etc etc are all of interest. Oh, and also whether you thought you were a better writer at the end of it, with more prospects of success. Thank you.

Id be interested in this too - though retirement is a very long way off for me! 😁 There are also summer courses you could try at universities- again, not sure of the teaching quality, but at least less of ofna financial investment!

The OU do one £2650 a year for two years. I can’t vouch for the course though.

I did one! I got published as well. There were about 20 people on the course and I was the only one who got published. I found it really great for making new friends and focusing on writing. The quality of teaching was quite poor I thought. I was a teacher at the time and I know when someone is blagging! However the guest speakers were really good and the workshops were good although not everybody pulls their weight. A lot of people were very good at writing first chapters but not continuing. It depends what your goal is. Out of all my published writer friends I don't know anyone else who did a masters.

Healthybychristmas - where did you study? No worries if you’d rather not say.
