ISEB Prep

Hello, my DS has just finished Year 5 and we are currently preparing for the upcoming ISEB Pre-Test in Oct/Nov.
He’s getting mainly 7s in his islands for all subjects and he’s started Bond Papers (he’s done CGP’s at school).
Should he now be doing 10-11 papers or continue and be 100% confident with the 9-10 year old papers? My understanding was that the ISEB is mainly Year 5 work, so does that mean the topics in 10-11 year old books maybe irrelevant or too hard and mainly aimed for the 11+ exams for Grammar Schools?

I tutor for the ISEB and would definitely recommend starting on the 10-11 books now. I personally think the Bond 10-11 books are way too easy for the competitive schools (London day schools, for example). Also, the islands are not the best measure imo and the mock tests with standardised SAS scores are better to work with. It all depends on the target school though.

Thank you for your response and recommendations@mugglebump My DS has found the CGP books really easy compared to Bond. We’ll absolutely try the 10-11 year old ones now. Is the ISEB pre test mainly Year 5 syllabus or some of Year 6 as well? As they take it so early in Year 6 I assumed it was mainly Maths they had learnt in Y5?

No the ISEB is at a Y6 level. You should also be doing the 11+ books once the 10-11 books are done. Most prep schools are a year ahead with their curriculum any way, so this shouldn't be a big stretch for the children sitting the ISEB in October.

Please can I DM you about tutoring for the pre-tests?
