EHCP Process - educational psychologist meeting and assessments

Hi, I worked with my 6 year old son's school to submit an EHCP request to our local authority (LA). The LA has requested a meeting with my son and I to evaluate needs, further to that EHCP application. What advice do you have to navigate this meeting? What types of things is the psychologist looking for? Do I portray my son on his "worst day"? What happens next in the process?

My son was assessed by an EP.

she was with him for about three hours. Did various tests including intelligence tests, phonics tests, handwriting speed etc.

is the meeting for an EP assessment with your child or to meet with you?

The EP will meet both of you and run tests on your child. This is your chance to get across your child’s difficulties. Do present his worst day honestly to them. The recent EP we had assessing one of my pupils was brilliant. Got this very complex child instantly and said the things I’ve been saying about them for years. You need to present your worries and also hopes for the future.

This is exactly what happened with us. My child was assessed over teams whilst at nursery in the afternoon; we had a teams call with the psychologist first.

Upshot they wrote a report to include in EHC Needs assessment. This went to panel who decided to draft EHCP.
