Hi my daughter is at the end of year 10 and I have pulled her out of school for mental health grounds, I want to sit her for gcse aqa privately however she needs practicals for science, does anyone know if she can request her old school to sign something off for her year 10 practicals science in order to sit gcse science aqa rather then Edexcel - thank you

Try posting in the home ed board

the best place to ask is a FB group called Home Education UK Exams and Alternatives.

also are you on any of the national FB groups such as HEFA (Home education for All)?
mumsnet is generally not a good place to ask questions about HE. Good luck!

If the school doesn’t help then she may have to do IGCSE science which doesn’t need practicals. If you want support Southwest Science School do very good online courses that you can do in a year (especially if she’s already done a year of GCSE).

It is unlikely the school will do this.

It is possible to sit GCSE sciences as an external candidate but you need the practical sign off so many sit IGCSE Sciences instead.

Macclesfield Tutorial College offers AQA Sciences, including the practical endorsement. Some other providers who provide the practicals work with Tutors & Exams too. There are other providers where you can do GCSE Sciences as well, just can’t remember any of the others around your area off the top of my head.

If DD is unable to attend school because of her mental health, have you considered not electively home educating but going down the alternative provision route?
