Hey,

My daughter has finished reception on the purple book band of the read write inc phonics scheme. I want to buy her some books from different schemes to read over summer. Does anyone know the other reading schemes levels to march purple RWI.

thanks 😊

I don't teach RWI but, having Googled their purple books, they look on a par with anything labelled 'red' or 'yellow' band. A mixture of digraphs (two letters representing one sound) and words with 4 sounds.

The Julia Donaldson Songbirds series is a popular choice for home reading as it's easily accessible on Amazon and covers a range of stages. Some will be too easy for her now (the purple covered ones) but any reading is better than nothing reading and easy books boost their confidence). Some will be just right for now (most likely the green and blue coloured ones, which are red and yellow book band), and some you'll be able to put away for later.

It’s hard as RWI do not follow the trend. Most phonics scheme teach phase 3 - ai ee igh oa etc whereas RWI does alternative sounds first. It’s quite hard to match other books to the RWI scheme. Julia Donaldson songbirds are okay and may match up in some way but others won’t as she won’t know the digraphs and trigraphs. Anything phase 3 she might find tricky due to the differences in schemes
