Do you mean they are 4 weeks over the 20week deadline? I guess you could return the uniform and then buy what you need once you know for sure about placement? Is the school you’ve bought uniform for your parental preference?

Thu321 · 29/06/2025 18:51

No 4 weeks into it hun I'm worried sick he having one to one support at moment in primary but high school colton hills don't think they do that . He's at the learning age of a 5 to 6 years old . Even the head mistress said he won't cope in mainstream what do I do wait to see if echp arri is in August. He starts senior in the Sept hun xx

Maybe get in touch with the high school he has a place at to see what they can offer him with it without the EHCP? Even with an EHCP he may not be offered a place at a specialist school. Have you any support from Ipsea or SENDIASS?

ThesebeautifulthingsthatIvegot · 29/06/2025 18:58

I don't know how to put this gently, but it is almost impossible that he will have a place at another school by September if the EHCP application has only just gone in four weeks ago.

Have you spoken to the senior school?

wonderstuff · 29/06/2025 19:01

He will have the senior school as his school, I’m not sure why, if they don’t think he’s a mainstream candidate, the primary didn’t act in year 4 or 5?

I would arrange a meeting with the secondary SENCO, has he had any transition yet?

perpetualplatespinning · 29/06/2025 19:05

You won’t have an EHCP by September if the EHCNA was only requested 4 weeks ago. Bluntly, you may not have one for a long time because many have to appeal, sometimes more than once. I wouldn’t be worrying about uniform at this point.

Speak to the secondary school DS has a place at. 1:1 without an EHCP is unlikely at secondary, but they must make reasonable adjustments and their best endeavours to meet DS’s SEN. Is DS having extra transition visits?

hellohellooo · 29/06/2025 19:08

OP I don't know many students who have been granted an ehc for adhd

It could be a battle

Gather as much evidence of his delays from his teachers at the school who know him well

Thu321 · 29/06/2025 19:13

He's got 2 induction days from tomorrow and me and my husband have got go Tuesday evening so I think I'll have ask them . I dread him starting there hun

I've sent alot of evidence from phycologist and support worker and even the head of his primary school even from the gem centre docter

You need to contact the SENCO at the secondary school. DS needs more than 2 transition visits and you need more than a general evening meeting.

It is possible to get an EHCP with ADHD. Although it sounds like DS needs an EHCNA to further understand his needs.

Even the head mistress said he won't cope in mainstream

Do you have this in writing?

Buscake · 29/06/2025 19:20

If you’re onto 4 weeks into the process then as a previous poster has said it won’t be issued in time. In fact, it’s unclear if an assessment has even been agreed at this point, and if they decline to assess you may need to factor tribunal appeal timescales as well.

take his Sen support plan with you to the meeting with the senco, make sure they are aware of what he needs and why.

Thu321 · 29/06/2025 19:21

I'll have a talk with them when I go and arrange a meeting if I can but thankyou so much for all your help you've been great ill post on here when I ere anything xxxx

I wouldn't wait, I'd get on to the secondary school tomorrow morning and arrange a meeting asap given how close we are to end of term. Also, I don't know if it's the same in all areas but where we are the Primary Senco's have a handover session with the Secondary Senco's so might be worth checking if that's happened and if not ask the current Senco to arrange for all your sons info to be handed over.

perpetualplatespinning · 29/06/2025 19:42

I wouldn’t wait either. I would contact the school tomorrow.

ThesebeautifulthingsthatIvegot · 29/06/2025 21:05

I agree that you should contact the new school tomorrow. Explain the situation - his learning levels and the EHCP status.

Most importantly, don't panic. Be positive with him about the new school, because he will be going there in September.

Does his current teacher or anyone at the current school know him well? Could you ask them to help you speak to the high school about what helps your son?

Thu321 · 30/06/2025 08:57

Me and his dad got go to the senior school tomorrow night so I'll bring it all up I took him this morning for Induction day and he cried his eyes out he wouldn't get out the car I'm a right mess feel like I've done wrong taking him x I'm going have a word with primary school tomorrow to see if they sent all his paperwork etc over to colton hills

perpetualplatespinning · 30/06/2025 13:50

I really wouldn’t wait until tomorrow evening. I would contact the school today.

Whereismypurse · 30/06/2025 19:40

No offence OP but you have no chance. Even the children with EHCP and transitions reviews they can’t even sort that out. Unfortunately if the uniform is expensive can you return it and buy second hand? Lots give away for free. Are you sure the process has actually started? 100%? As sencos can be rubbish some don’t have a clue. How did the last primary school fail him so badly? Or how was he managing to cope all day? Hopefully the school has a unit attached to the senior school. Worst case the child won’t cope and then he will be at home full time for a period of time. Not to be negative but to highlight what could happen.

Can you get a med review if it’s only adhd? Maybe increase dose / different med. Prob lots
more going on.

Wish you all the luck and maybe you’re in a good LA or a small senior school with a good senco / teachers. But I’d be exceptionally angry with the primary school that hasn’t been great and basically let you down massively.

It’s up to you to take charge too look at the Ipsea website and the noddy guide for ehcps

Whereismypurse · 30/06/2025 19:46

I mean no chance to jump to a new sen school before Sept ….

ThesebeautifulthingsthatIvegot · 30/06/2025 22:59

Do you have a letter from the local authority (eg. Hertfordshire / Haringey) that states that an EHCNA has been agreed? Or one that states a request has been received?

Even to get it right for your child by Year 8, you need to be much more proactive here.
