Looking for recommendations moving to Edinburgh from Home Counties England with 15yr son, who’s currently in private school next June post his GCSE’s.
I’m looking at areas to live, South Queensferry, or maybe even Dunfermline. Have looked Balerno side but don’t think so. Any advice or recommendations.

What’s your budget and criteria? How many bedroom etc
Morningside,Marchmont,Merchiston Broughton Sciennes, botanic gardens JuniperGreen are all really nice.
Balerno, currie are a bit meh, just a sprawl of new build . Unless new building Cala house is your thing . I genuinely don’t think those area have anything noteworthy other than folk think they’re well to do
plenty private schools and it’s got a high participation (for Scotland)

Would you be looking for your son to attend a private school which puts pupils through A levels, or would you be considering him entering the state school system? There are a handful of private schools in Edinburgh which offer A Levels (Merchiston, Fettes, Loretto - although further out in Musselburgh). I don't think either Heriot's or Watsons offer A levels.

South Queensferry is lovely, as is the East Neuk in Fife but with teenagers I'd look at Edinburgh itself.

I have lived in Morningside and Bruntsfield and they're great places to live (mostly flats but they're decent sizes usually) with plenty going on and walking distance to the city centre. Further out down towards Juniper Green is nice as PP says.

It really depends on your budget and criteria. You'd think moving from SE England to Edinburgh would give you a decent budget but having looked at that option myself you'd be surprised.

budget is around £575k max. Need three beds and really would prefer a house or villa to an appt.

I’d think you’d want to pick a school first as presumably you’re thinking private? Then work out what’s best as it sounds like you either don’t work or work from home so can be wherever.

Agree. Sort school then chose tolerable commute

Hi, I do work, there’s a possibility of staying within what I do but in Edinburgh but otherwise will be looking for another job. Would not be at home though.

Then I’d pick a school and go from there as that will be the limiting factor.
