Hi there. I am a dad with a 9 year old son, currently in a local school..Our language is English and consequently is my son struggling to keep up as all subjects are taught in Cantonese. I need advise or guidance..If anyone knows how I can get my son in an English medium school. We are not a wealthy family and can't afford private schools.

Are you over there for work, I'm assuming? I know some employers will cover children's education fees, it might be worth talking to your manager

Ah okay. Have you looked at scholarships? A friend of mine's dc went to Scholarships - DSC International School- It's a canadian international school but gets lots of british students and students from other countries. They offer a variety of scholarships so it's worth getting in touch with the school, they have scholarships that cover up to 80% of the fees depending on which you apply for. They're really helpful in pointing you in the way of which he'd be eligible for + what help they can provide if you explain your situation. Harrow International offer bursaries, but your son wouldn't be old enough yet as they offer them from year 6 upwards. Scholarships & Bursaries - Harrow International School Hong Kong

your obv port of call would be a place at an ESF school

can you consider a tutor in canto as an option?

Only if you're seriously top C- Suite (CEO, VP, CFO, boss etc.), the packages were obliterated years ago for any one lower in the pecking order. It's too expensive. HSBC and Hang Seng are cutting jobs and other MNCs are slimming down and / or moving to Singapore.

There are a couple of aided primary schools using English as the medium of instruction. See this page: https://therfiles.com/emi/
