My DD is in year R and I feel like the only parent who couldn’t attend the event at the school today so feeling really guilty ☹️
It’s only an hour or 2 but it’s made me feel like a bad parent..
Can someone help me feel better?

How do you know it was only you who couldn’t attend? It’s inevitable that if you work, there are going to be things you can’t go to, because people need to work.

Don't beat yourself up about it. Give DD an extra big hug. Is there anyone else who could attend if a similar situation occurs. I used to sometimes go to the grandchildren's school things. I couldn’t always go to my own children’s though.

Thanks @BluevelvetsofaI’m sure I’m not the only one but I was the only one out of the group of 10 mums I tend to stand with in the playground.
I come to most events and will always try and send my husband if not but he’s full time and my parents can’t really attend due to health issues. So it’s a bit crap but yes, a big hug after school I think.

I think of you are working then you just need to prioritise those events that your dc will really want you at. For my dc this was sports day and Christmas concert. If we could do anything else we would but sometimes it is too much. Many parents are in the same boat so do not worry too much.

I teach Reception and there are always a few parents who can’t attend. I find that the children are usually fine as long as the parents have been clear to them that they can’t attend so they are not looking out for them. Other parents are always good at including them and we always have extra adults on hand to support too. Mum guilt is horrible! Don’t beat yourself up.
