When do nursery vouchers start?

DD goes to a private day nursery 2 days a week. She is curently 2y 9m, and her birthday is at the beginning of April. She will still be at this nursery until she is 4y 9m, when she will start school in January 2007.

I have heard a bit about nursery vouchers, but know very little about them and how they work.

I do know the nursery accepts them, but when do they start and for how long they last. Neither do I know how much they are worth, and what affect it will have on the amount I pay for her to go to nursery.

Can anyone help me out and give me an idiot's guide to how the system works?

I know a bit about them as ds gets a free nusery place for 5 2.5 hour sessions a week. He got this from the term after his third birthday until he leaves pre-school in July. I know that some private nurseries take the vouchers as part payment for their fees but you will have to check with the Council (i think) in your area who will be able to tell you how much they are worth etc. We got a booklet through the post when ds was about 2.6 detailing everything.

Cheers bagpuss. So DD would probably get them from September 2005 then? Until she starts school I guess.

Maybe I need to get on the LEA website and see if they have a download guide then!

Nursery vouchers are something you can get from your employer as a job perk, I don't know if this is what you mean.

But you will get funding from the LEA starting the term after your dd turns 3 which is for up to five sessions per week not more than two in one day. In practice our LEA funds my son about £28 for a full week at nursery and I have to pay the rest.

That sounds about right triceratops, I couldn't remember as I've lost our booklet. Hula, your dd will be the same as mine I think, and I haven't received anything yet for her either.

My ds is also 3 in April at a private preschool in Sheffield the vouchers will start in September as the cut off is the end of March.
DD2 has just started school and her bill was reduced by £416 a term.

Hulababy - you get it from the term after her third baby. At ds's nursery - the funding goes straight to the nursery and it's deducted from our bill.

I didn't get anything in the post at all - the forms went to the nursery, I filled it out and gave it back to them so I have no contact with the LEA about it at all.

DD currently goes to nursry 2 full days - or 4 sessions. But this may go up to another half day later in the year.

I know the vouchers don't cover the whole time there, just state nursery hours - yes?

Meaa - we are also in Sheffield (I think you already know that though???). Your saving soads like quite a good one

thankfully DD will switch onto the vouchers as the new baby starts nursrey too so i can still afford to work!!!

That saving was for the full 5 sessions as dd2 did 3 full days.Ds2 has special needs and is only doing 2 days so I guess we will get less off for him but everybit helps doesn't it.
Hulababy did know you were in Sheffield just wondering if we would have been in The Jessops wing at the same time ds2 birthday is the 6th.

I just want to know so we can sort out how we stand financially when I do start at the prison 3 days a week, rather than being at school. Hoping to leave at Easter

But financially want to see how much better off we will be, especially if I do go off on mat leave before she goes to school - gosh, I hope so anyway!!!

LOL meaa - we must have been. DD's birthday is the 5th. I was in there from the Wednesday evening for induction; had her on the Friday might and left on the Monday morning. Small world, eh?!

If you are looking to save some money on childcare i know DD's nursery has places in its over 3's bit and you could then not pay for holidays (10weeks) this is a huge saving for us. Plus once you've move we could share the nursery run providing they went on the same days!!

I am leaving school teaching at Easter anyway Katzguk. Made the decision yesterday . So, school holidays will be a think of the past for me for a while - or at least until January 2007! If I get the job I want to apply for I will get 12 weeks paid holidays - to take when I want to!!! and if I go with just doing 3 days of hourly paid work, I can take holidays as and when I want anyway.

and i know i've asked before but are the prison wages the same as school or worse? DH would love to leave school and do something else.

I hate school - that's the honest reason! I have gotten more and more fed up and disillusioned this term, and I think if I stay there I will end up I'll, and also will never be successful on the TTC front!

Pay for supply depends on each agency. The main one in Sheffield is the LEA one SESSa. Info about them is available on the LEA's website, but It is around £130 a day I think. Might be more; maybe less - not 100% sure.

Prison wages are slightly less than at school - they are lecturer's rates. It's just over £19 aan hour, and you do 6 hours a day approx - but are there longer. No pay for lunch break! And no sick pay, holiday pay, etc. But I am going to apply for an Adbisor's job which is more money amd also I get holiday pay, etc. too. Permenent contracts do come up regulatly. Most are advertised in TES and internally. They are always wanting new staff, especially ones who actually have QTS - not many do right now.

I can let you know if I hear of anything that might be suitable.

sounds great i think DH would enjoy it. He can teach History, Politics, general studies, citizenship, philosophy and general skills.

As far as prison work is concerned though, if he has QTS he can teach pretty much anything.

There ar two FT jobs coming up in March. One is entry level numeracy and lteracy (basically primary school level), and one other - can't remember what though.

I will keep a look out as posts are up on the wall regularly. They are often in TES too.
