A friend of mine is possible moving to this area. Can anyone tell me what are the good local primary and secondary schools and which are the nice areas to live?

Tynemouth is lovely, feels villagey, nice cafes, local shops, good transport etc.

North Shields is rough but on the river and you can get some lovely homes for a bargain price. It is officially 'up-and-coming' but still v rough IMHO.

Have never lived there with children so no idea about schools or children's facilities - I only know that West Monkseaton school is very good and very sought after (but probably too far away from your friend).
