how important is perfect spelling when applying to "lightly selective" private schools at year 3? Thanks 🙂

At the moment, not at all. Unless you are in London and looking for very selective preps, most are clamouring for bums on seats! An average/ slightly above average child will be fine in most places!

I think one of the challenges is the tests vary a lot so you need to be looking at the exact assessments. I don’t think anyone is going to be expecting perfection from a small child but there is a big range below perfection. My daughter is terrible at spelling and preparing for 11 plus, it’s obvious some assessments will work better for her than others.
