Advice on Cheltenham Prep/Primary Schools

We are thinking of moving our two children from our rural local primary to either Richard Pate School or Berkhampstead, before applying for Grammar. If anyone has any comments/advice on either of these schools that would be fantastic - thank you in advance. Although the academic part is most important, we would still like a school that is balanced and has some fun.

Hi there. I went to Richard Pates and my daughter goes to Berkhampstead. Both get really good numbers into the grammar schools, but a lot of that will be parents also prepping them and/or paying for a tutor. Go and visit each and see what you think. We love Berkhampstead and I fell in love with it straight away, small classes with happy and confident children. Ask for information on grammar school prepping while you are there but follow your gut instinct. Hope that helps!

Thank you. We have been around both a couple of times, and they were our shortlist from the wider options. We have decided on RPS. Just trying to get as much information as possible.

Interesting that you feel much of getting into grammar it is still external to the schools. We have previously wondered whether we should stick with our current school, and tutor/support at home plus sign up to wider clubs/experiences, and save our money incase we don’t get into grammar! It’s a definite conundrum.
