I need a good boarding school in the UK for my American child that is going into year 11, the catch, she wants a good swim program. But we need a school that has an American program so that she can go. Any help?

I’m not sure I understand your post clearly enough.

By American programme do you mean American education / curriculum as she’d study back home? If so how would you describe this?

And by swim programme what sort of level are you expecting? If you want a level that will get you a scholarship to a US university then it won’t be at an American school it will be at a British school.

The only boarding schools I know that don’t do a levels (they do IB) and have good swim/sports facilities is the ACS Cobham.

Otherwise the swim schools I know with boarding are mostly a level system (Millfield, Repton)

Yes ACS Cobham. They follow the IB/AP curriculum. They have a very strong swim and sports programme. Follow them on Instagram. Good luck.

So we are in the USA right now but moving to Swindon in July. In order for her to go to any school, they have to do the A level or IB progamme (I think). This is because she is going into year 11 and won't be able to score good on the GCSE. She is a competitive swimmer in the USA and wants a competitive swim program that will let her improve and compete in the UK. She a good swimmer and we did a few trial swims for Mount Kelly before realizing she can't go there because she is entering year 11 and won't be able to take the test.

A lot of schools won't take into year 11, due to GCSE exams (they don't want to disrupt existing students). They would prefer to put a student into year 10. When does she turn 16? Closest to Swindon are Millfield and Mount Kelly, but would require boarding. Or look for a local club, live near the club and commute to Swindon, which could include, Maidenhead, Wycombe, Guildford, Winchester, or there is a club in Swindon itself. Then it widens the choice for schools.

St George’s Ascot (girls) now has a high-level swim programme I think.

Eastbourne College? Good luck.
