How's this writing for a Yr1 boy?

Hi all, I hope this isn't a weird one to ask.

DS is 5 and he really struggled with his writing when in reception. We've practiced loads and I feel like he's made a massive leap with it recently! He's my only so I don't really have any comparisons, and I don't get much from the school unfortunately. I think it's pretty good for Yr1? He was re-telling a story about fruit coming alive and having a disco ("kitchen disco") 🤣 some of the spelling obviously isn't quite right ("banner" is "banana"), but overall I think on track?

Would appreciate any views from parents with similar aged children 🙂

Bit better than my Year 1 boy's writing 👌

It’s lovely and neat and good spelling of high frequency words - your, are, they etc. Good use of phonics to spell too.
In year one I would be expecting to see capital letters and full stops so maybe that’s something to focus on next.

Very good writing - better than my DD's handwriting who is in Year 2.

Judging by my own ds in year 1 id say yours is above expected as my ds is also working at about the same level. As pp suggested full stops and capitals are the next focus. For context my son's writing is a bit smaller and he tends to remember full stops and capitals but spellings are at a similar level and kitchen disco is one of his current favourites
