Could someone please let us know if it is expected/ if it is customary in UK to send an email to Thankyou the interviewer (s).

No, not expected or customary. We have never done this (London) or know of anyone else sending thank you note afte interview.

While it's not mandatory to send a thank you email after an interview, doing so can leave a positive impression and reinforce your interest in the role.

We did. It’s just polite. She got offered 3 academic scholarships so it didn’t do any harm. I always send thank you emails after I interview for roles too.
