GCSE Maths Textbook (not revision/work books)

My son is in Yr9 and needs to improve his Maths. He's started the AQA GCSE syllabus. We have a Maths workbook with questions to complete, in an attempt to help him at home (although he's despondent and doesn't engage). But what I really need is a textbook that explains HOW to do things. He gets set a lot of homework and when I try to help him find that I am having to constantly Google how to do something, learn it myself and then attempt to explain it to him. This takes a long time and he switches off even further. So, is there such thing as a textbook that talks you through how to do equations, angles etc etc for the AQA syllabus, rather than just a book with questions and answers??

Hello,
if you want a textbook with explanations I can recommend this series https://www.amazon.co.uk/Higher-GCSE-Maths-Michael-White/dp/1906622515
The one linked is 4-9 suitable for the Higher Course. If your son is doing foundation there is a 1-3 and 4-5 book.
As a maths teacher I highly recommend Corbett maths videos

You can scroll down to a topic you want, or, if using a laptop search using “ control f” or just type in “equations, Corbett”
One of my colleagues recommends https://www.mrmorleymaths.co.uk/ aswell
Hope this helps

Thanks so much, I will check out the books and websites, and probably end up using both! He's in set 2 for Maths at the moment, but definitely the lower end of it. Although I suppose I should still order the higher level books.
