I’m an American mum living in Guildford, and my daughter, who’s currently 3, is set to start at St Nicolas in September 2026. She’s summer-born, so we’ve decided to defer her start, as we feel an extra year will give her more time to grow socially and emotionally before starting school.
I understand Reception is very play-based, which is great, but I imagine things become more formal in Year 1. For those with children currently attending St Nicolas, can you share how the transition from Reception to Year 1 works? Does the play-based approach continue, or does it shift significantly?
