Haggerston school

Hello,
My son is due to go to secondary school next year. We have put Haggerston school on our list of preferred choices but I wonder if anyone has any experience of what the school is really like. I liked the open days and the fact that arts and sports and drama seem important, as well as pastoral care, but not sure how they are with maths and science (my son is particularly interested in). Also the fact that only one foreign language, Spanish, is offered seems very limited to me (coming from Dutch back ground where many languages are taught at school). I also looked at central foundation boys school. It seems to be on the other end of the spectrum in the sense that it’s boys only and very strict (both I am uncomfortable
with) but what they offer with languages, maths, science, seems of high standard. How does this school do with art? We couldn’t look in the art room for some reason, on the open days. Can anyone tell me their experience of either school?
Thank you.

Marenka

Haggerston only recently became an academy so is less strict than others.

it is a good middle of the road school.
i know lots of parents who moved schools to attend Haggerston (from other local schools)

It's going through a bit of change at the moment as it's become an academy and they are moving towards a stricter approach. This has caused some upset with both teachers and parents feeling they haven't been consulted properly (and the teachers have been on strike). Most of the parents who have kids there are fairly happy but there are issues around disruptive behaviour in class. If you have kids with SEN avoid as it has a terrible rep for supporting those children.
