Shaftesbury Park Bilingual Stream

Hi, are there any parents on here whose children are at Shaftesbury Park Primary in Battersea especially in the bilingual stream? Just looking for feedback on the school, it appears undersubscribed is there any reason why? The ofsted report made it sound lovely and I loved it. How does it compare to Belville Wix (we don’t live in their tiny catchment so I doubt we’ll get in)? How is the teaching and pastoral care? The ethos of the school and the parents? Are there any major red flags I may be missing?

Changed user name for this as it is a bit outing but I am a regular poster.

First, you might get more answers to this question if you post on Nappy Valley net - local website.

We sent DC to SP a few years ago because we had returned unexpectedly to Wandsworth, SP had free places and and there were no places nearer our home.

We were very pleasantly surprised. Catchment is very diverse: Families who choose private at 8+ or 11+ as well as families who struggle financially. Like the rest of London it attracts a range of different ethnicities, many with English as a second language. The bilingual stream is relatively new. Many local parents would choose Wix if they could get a place because it feeds in to the Lycee, but places there are limited.

Overall the school is well managed and there is a lovely community feel where each child feels valued.

Hi thank you for your response! So there are no real issues with the school it’s just that Wix is more popular because of the links with the Lycee? I know there’s only 14 places, most seem to go to siblings and we don’t live in their tiny catchment so I doubt we’ll get in. SP seems like such a lovely school but it just worries me that parents don’t go for it, so thanks for reassuring me. We would like to go for the Lycee or Jeanine Manuel for Secondary, do any kids continue their education at the Lycee for secondary?
