Schools around East Sussex

Hello all,

We are potentially moving to East Sussex as my daughter has been offered a place at Frewen College. We also need to consider schooling for our other daughter before we make the final decision. She currently attends a small private school that has a strong culture of the whole child including fabulous pastoral care. The girls are confident, critical thinkers with good emotional intelligence. I want to continue this theme and am wondering if a similar schools for secondary exists in this area. Thanks!

Hi OP. Two schools near to Frewen are Battle Abbey and Claremont. Both are mixed rather than all girls. Both are ‘through schools’ with the Prep on a separate site. Battle Abbey Senior School starts at Y7 and Claremont Senior starts at Y9. Battle Abbey is very strong in music and drama and Claremont is stronger in sports. From my personal experience, BA is the stronger of the two for pastoral care and the ‘whole child’, but then the best fit for one child isn’t necessarily the best fit for another.

Thanks for the feedback. That's good to know - we wouldn't nec stay near to Frewen as there are mini buses that service the school allowing us greater flexibility on location! If you know of any other schools further afield you think might be a good fit let me know - much appreciated :)

I think it might be too far away, but Lewes Old Grammar is very much about the whole child and has amazing pastoral support. Again, it's a mixed all-through school, with a junior (up to year 6) on a different site.
