Alleyns 7+ assessment

Hi, I've tried searching all over for this but can't really find first hand experience. I've applied to Alleyns for my daughter. She's sitting the 7+(year 3) entrance assessment. I understand its a written test but I'm finding it hard to gauge the difficulty of this paper. The past papers online are from other schools and they seem alot tougher than the expected curriculum for this age. Anyone with any advice, tips, preparation tricks please guide. It's causing me stress not having more details about the environment the test will be conducted in. Thank you!

For Alleyns and schools like it, there's an expectation that children will be working at a level a year above national curriculum levels. So the papers are definitely challenging!

Sorry, posted too soon.

The Bond 7+ preparation books are a good way to prepare for the Verbal Reasoning and Non Verbal reasoning aspects of the test in particular, as lots of schools don't really cover that at all.

Most families apply for a range of schools in the area if they're looking for private: DPL, Dulwich College for boys, JAGS and Sydenham for girls, Rosemead or St Dunstans for co-ed.
The aim is to hit a range that means you have more and less academically selective options, to cover the bases and get a school that's right for you.

Alleyns doesn't have a very high 7+ intake, so the odds aren't brilliant if that's your only application

She's at a prep school in Bromley area at the moment that goes all the way to year 6. We've applied to Alleyns and Eltham although Alleyns is first choice as it seems like the right environment for her. She's very into drama and arts and I've heard great things about the pastoral care at Alleyns which is why we want to move her there. She's done the 7+ bond books without problem as her current school works a year ahead of the curriculum and introduced VR and NVR quite early. It's the English and Maths from 7+ past papers online that look much tougher. Alleyns doesn't have any sample papers for 7+ so just looking for an idea on difficulty from someone who may have experience with it. Thank you for your reply.

That's a great starting position - it's much easier if you aren't trying to get them to that stage without school support.

Our experience has been that the process for most of these schools is quite opaque, and the required standard is also, which makes it hard as parents to judge!

How did you get one with your little one? We are looking to try the 7plus next year and it would be great to have any feedback.

I hadn’t appreciated the assessments are split into two rounds. Anyone know how many applications they receive and what percentage pass the first and second rounds?
