St Olave's stage 2 exam

Hi all,

St Olave's stage 2 exam was done yesterday, how did your son feel about the exam? My son is sad as he found the last 4-5 questions in Math quite difficult, he is worried if this would diminish his chance to get a place... did anyone of your son find the last questions difficult too? Look forward to hearing your comment.

Tell your son not to be sad. I am sure many kids did not finish. My ds did not do St Olave's, but he did Tiffin's stage 2 and did not finish math or english. And it was the same for some others we asked (and for Tiffin girls as well!). I think the exams are made to be difficult so that most do not finish. Of course there are perhaps some that do finish.

Yes, my DS and his two friends reported the same. He found Wilson’s stage 2 much easier on the Maths front. I do not understand St Olave’s - it is already too Maths/Science heavy - surely they should be focussing on getting kids in who are also really good at English. Otherwise they end up with the whole cohort just wanting to do Further Maths and Computer Science A level.

@Lulu317 - I would not worry about it further. Presumably your DS if he passed stage 1 has other good grammar options too? And if most of them could not finish, only those truly excellent at Maths and years ahead in Maths, then some who did not finish will get through anyway.
