State primaries in Richmond- any advice?

Hello,

My family are moving to the Richmond area next year and we’re trying to figure out primaries for our daughter. We realise we may not have a choice as it depends on places, but in an ideal world which schools would people recommend/ advise to stay away from?

We will be on the Richmond side of Petersham. Does anyone know if that’s out of the catchment for Vineyard school?

We have been really lucky with our current primary, which is very ambitious, academic and switched on with a nice parent community. We liked the Russell School but it’s a lot more laid back than what we’re used to (both good and bad!)

We heard Meadlands was more ambitious for the children?

Vineyard looks good on paper but has mixed reviews online…

Any thoughts/ personal experience would be really helpful.

thanks!

@Sunway769 , they are all good including st Margaret's, East Sheen and twickenham. Focus on a house and commute instead.

@Sunway769 the catchments are a lot wider now than they used to be, due to a low birthrate. There's latest distance data from 2024 online here: https://5f2fe3253cd1dfa0d089-bf8b2cdb6a1dc2999fecbc372702016c.ssl.cf3.rackcdn.com/uploads/ckeditor/attachments/16552/Richmond_Primary_guide_2025.pdf . The Vineyard wasn't oversubscribed this year and a lot of other schools weren't oversubscribed either, meaning you could have got in from any distance.

p.s. Cut-off distance data is in section 5 of that doc. ⬆️
