Hi my eldest son has come home from school today (year 9 high school) and informed me that he got taken out of his PE lesson first period this morning and put in a room with 3 other children and told to read random words off cards
me and his dad knew nothing about this and what it is for
he has also been told he will be doing this once a weeks for the next 6 weeks at random times and random days

any idea what this could be for?

Some sort of intervention to catch up reading skills maybe?

It sounds like he was being tested for his reading age. If it is low, then the school may give him some additional help with reading.

Why not email his form teacher to ask? If you don't have their direct email address, then email the school office and ask for the message to be forwarded to the form teacher.

It sounds like ReadWriteInc or something similar - a scheme to help improve reading fluency. Does your son struggle with reading? Just ask the form tutor and I’m sure they’ll be able to find out for you
