Good evening everyone, helping my niece with her UCAS form. Where is a good place to study for a Business / Marketing / Management degree in the UK???? The only slight issue - niece has a 4 in GCSE Maths. Does anyone else have any experience of overcoming this hurdle? Thanks for any tips, advice, experience.

Hi @LondonMama84 what kind of grades is she looking at for A levels? That will give a steer on universities. I don't think a 4 in maths will be a barrier unless she is looking at very popular unis that require high grades in general.

For example, if she is looking at (say) BBC, unis like Nottingham Trent or Leeds Beckett might work. Notts Trent wants 104-112 UCAS points for its course in business and marketing (that's BCC-BBC). They will be fine with a 4 in maths.

Somewhere like Uni of Leicester is looking for higher grade A levels for a similar course (ABB) but still only specifies a 4 in maths.

I think you'll find it is only the highest-rated unis that look for grade 6 in maths and English at GCSE as a standard requirement. Is that likely to be where she is looking?

Tho tbh - I see you say you are "helping her with her UCAS form" - is she submitting this autumn/winter? she must surely have some ideas of where she might like to study by this stage? If not, then a good deal of thorough and rapid research over the next few weeks is a great idea. Some uni open days are still available in the autumn term but she needs to get her skates on.
