Bilingual schools

I need to preface this by saying I don't have young school aged children so this is purely out of curiosity. Is this a very middle class/wealthy demograph? Are the majority of students holding the mother tongue of the school, or do people just send their dc to these schools to give them proficiency in another language?

It's usually families who are bilingual

Near where I used to live there are (separate!) French, Spanish and Portuguese schools, some bilingual, at least one fully in the non-English language. All of them require the pupils to be capable of benefiting from the style of education offered, so they are very much for DC who can already speak the language proficiently.
