Sixth Form Oversubscribed

Hi - any advice would be very welcome please 😊

We have recently moved house (July 24) from out of area for the 2 local 6th Forms. My DD is 17 and just finished an apprenticeship. She would now like to do her A levels at college having been home schooled for GCSEs due to a serious eating disorder.

DD is now recovering well, thankfully. We have applied to the 2 nearest 6th form colleges and been rejected from both due to having a late application (closure was Jan 24 but we were not living in the area) and that they are both oversubscribed. She has the GCSE grades to do the courses she wants.

I'm trying to work out what options are available and whether it would be worth appealing against their decisions. Or if they are oversubscribed, is that it - no chance to apply? The next nearest college is 18 miles away and it would take 1.5 hours on the bus each way to get there. It is also mainly an agricultural college with only around 150 students doing A Levels.

Time is now running out and we are both worried about how DD will have a chance to do A Levels...

Thank you 😊

Great news OP! Good luck to your DD for tomorrow.

Hope it goes well. It sounds like your DD will get much more out of sixth form than just her A levels. I hope she blooms

@OneGladHedgehog hope it all went well today! Barton were super well organised when we went earlier in the week.

@OneGladHedgehog - Peter Symonds have been doing enrolment this week so might be worth calling them tomorrow and see if there has been any change.

Good luck. To be honest, either BP or PSC are excellent so I hope your dd thrives and achieves her hopes and dreams.

Quick update - today went really well. BP were so organised, the staff seemed lovely and the facilities are great. My daughter is so excited to study for the first time in several years!
Thanks for all your support and well wishes, my heart is warm 😍

I was about to post about how ridiculous that it should be so difficult for a dc who’s clearly had a different path through no fault of her own

but great update! Hope it all goes well

Fantastic, so pleased for her.
