We did an in year transfer for my DS year 3 , starting year 4 in the September. Initially I emailed local schools to where we were moving to see who actually had spaces.
Once I confirmed which school did I put an in year transfer in for the new school (contacted the new local authority). I actually didn’t need to provide any proof of the new address - we were selling and moving to rented prior to buying. The process was super straight forward. One thing to bear in mind is when they will take the child on role, if you google the new LA and the cut off dates this will guide you.
I presume if a school is full or nearly full they might need some evidence of the move etc

Where do you live now?
You can apply for a school from any address but the closer you live the better your chance of getting a place.
It would be better if you moved and then looked for a school place

You can only apply the term before and nothing is done over the summer holidays, lots of parents leaving private school are really struggling with getting their child a place for September.

I had to provide the rental agreement when I moved, it was 3 weeks for one child and 6 for the other to get places.

@Kaens

Which part of Berkshire are you moving to?

They will usually expect you start attending within a couple of weeks of the offer (or they might off role you), so I'd definitely wait until you have a completion date.

What I would do next month is call around and see which schools have a place, so that you can have a plan.

We are going to move to Caversham. Which way is best to contact with the school? By an email or phone call ?
