Maths--Improper Fractions. At what age?

DS is doing improper fractions in Y4. I don't remember doing maths like this until high school. Is this normal for Y4? Is he a genius or am I a maths dunce?

We definitely do them in Year 5 so maybe he is a genius!

We've just taught them in mixed yr5/6 class

Glad to hear it's Y5 stuff, as that's what I'd expect him to be doing. Obviously I was just poor at maths at school.

DD is in a mixed class of Year 3 and Year 4 and did improper fractions last term. Teacher used to take the Year5/6 class so maybe she is testing whether they can be done earlier.

The actual maths is very simple... it's just the over all idea of them... I had to think, and I don't often have to do that!!
