I haven't personally and the only people I know of having it done to is because they lied about where they lived and got found out.

lupy · 12/04/2008 19:27

How did they get found out.

I'm not sure, but it's probably not that hard to check up on applicants they are suspicious about, eg electoral roll. If asked to provide documentation to prove residence say more than 8 months old etc.

Why are you in trouble? I know some of the schools I applied for state very clearly that they reserve the right to do spot checks to ascertain whether you actually live at the address you used in application form.

lupy · 12/04/2008 20:10

Not me. I know 2 or possibly 3 people who have given false addresses. I did'nt get into my 1st choice secondary school. If some of the people who lied got caught I might get DS into the school.

Are to temped to dob them?

lupy · 12/04/2008 20:19

No. I think somebody else has already done that, but I don't think anything has happened to them.

perhaps you could ask the school and/or LEA what is the proceedure, without naming names but to highlight that people are aware that it's going on?

lupy · 12/04/2008 20:53

I have asked the Lea, they check utility bills, council tax statement (which can easily be altered by name, I think) and they sometimes ask for termination of and start of new tenency aggreement.

Which local authority are you? It may vary. I know that some LEAs state that they reserve the right to withdraw a place, and ours certainly does check up where someone has complained, but I don't know personally of anyone who's been booted out. Are you certain that these people have cheated, or is this rumour? Because if they've been contacted, they must have been able to show proof of residency. Not easy to fake.

lupy · 13/04/2008 19:23

Barnet LEA. They have definately cheated, maybe they know the people (or are related) living at the houses they have used and have agreed to put their names on the bills.
