What are the logistics behind securing a nursery placement?

Hi, people I'm after some advice on how the logistics work around securing a nursery. My son is 8 weeks old and we have seen a really nice nursery but they wouldn't be able to tell us if we got a space there until Feb next year and if they then said no hiw would we find another nursery in say 2 months?
How does it work?
Do people look at a few just incase but that would be a lot of money in deposits and first week just to possibly turn them down and then go for the first choice..

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You need to go on the list pregnant here. It's a nightmare.

Non refundable deposit of £150 but does secure you a place.

It depends on the nursery. I looked at 2 in the same chain when my daughter was a few months old. One wouldn't confirm her space until 2 months before and the other was happy to confirm immediately with a deposit so we went with that one.

It’s crazy. When I found out I was pregnant I called the nursery before I called the GP!

I would hedge your bets. Put DS down for the nursery you really like but still look for an alternative so you have a back up. I put my DD down for a place when I was 20 weeks pregnant but that was partly because I wanted to guarantee the days I wanted
