What is a standardised score?

Can anyone please explain what a standardised score is? My son is sitting for the Trafford exams in September. He was born in July, so he is one of the younger ones in his academic year. What bearing does this have, if any? TIA

Hi, a standardised score takes the raw score (actual mark) and converts it onto one scale measured against a group of children from the same cohort. It is adjusted according to age. 100 is the average. It’s usually a difference of a couple of marks if a child is a summer baby. So let’s say two children score nearly perfectly on the exam, a summer baby might get 141 whereas an autumn baby might get 139.

Thank you!
