Happy Thank U GIF by Barnaby

Heya, I have a family friend who is currently about to apply for student loans however I have had a few disagreements with her and teachers over what she should select as her 'family situation'. She had an SGO with her sister however was never adopted and now that she has turned 18 is technically no longer in the care of this family who are not related to her however she does still live with them. What would be the most beneficial choice for her for her as the family are willing to support her however school is suggesting she says she is 'estranged' as this might give her extra emotional and subjective support.
Any help would be great. Thanks x

@emmyert , sorry to read about your friend's situation. You need to ask MN to re-post in the Higher education section and you also need to join the Facebook group WIWIKAU and search on estranged. From my basic knowledge the school may be correct because they will get the full maintenance loan without completing the additional paperwork that takes into account family income and will also be flagged to the uni and be eligible for bursaries. Uni is really expensive so any help counts.
