Silly 11+ question

Can someone help? Do you register for independent school 11+ in Year 5 or Year 6?

It can vary, might be summer term year 5 or autumn year 6. Some may close lists early once they have enough registrations.

Also might depend whether you're applying for 11+ or 13+.

You need to check with each school individually. Some 13+ schools require you to register by the end of Yr5 so we were surprised that some 11+ schools still have their registration process open until late November in Yr6.
Also, be aware that registering early can have benefits. One 11+ school we registered with has an exam and then uses a combination of exam result and date of registration to give offers. I was sceptical of how many children this actually affected but they claimed that earlier registration showed more serious commitment to the school.

Year 5 currently. Ie. Would be turning 11 by 1st September 2025.

For most London private day schools, open days happen in May/June of Y5 and again in Sept/Oct of year 6, with the deadline for registration generally some time in October of year 6. So although registration is open already, you should have a while until the deadline. The earliest deadline I’ve heard of is 1 October. I don’t know about G&L specifically though.
