Best 6th forms for hockey players

DS in year 11 plays hockey at a national level. His current school doesn't really support this. Can anyone recommend any hockey playing sixth forms that offer ALN support please?

@FreshDoughDaily

As far as excellence in sport is concerned, Millfield is the first name which comes to mind.

Millfield School - 2 to 18, boarding and day

Millfield is an inspirational school where pupils are encouraged to discover their brilliance.

My DD went to Bromsgrove school in Worcestershire. They are very strong on hockey there. A couple of the girls she was at school with got into the England team.

Peter Symonds College in Winchester. Offers boarding, too.
Lots of National-level players.

Whitgift.

Thanks for your replies. I'd heard of Repton, but not the others. Will start looking!

It may be worth looking into Whitgift. (But not sure if the application deadline has passed.)

Lord Wandsworth College has a big hockey focus with a former international player as a coach.

Check out the link above for the England championship for U-8 boys - if you click on the button further down page you will see a spreadsheet with the matches this year. Some of schools mentioned here are on the spreadsheet (there are 3 pools by region I think - you have to scroll right on the spreadsheet)

There are probably other schools too where they play hockey and have good coaching so this won't be comprehensive

Repton.

Assuming your son can get through the academic side then Whitgift is the strongest school in the country by some margin. There are numerous other very good hockey schools such as Repton, St George’s Weybridge, Taunton, Ipswich etc but Whitgift
is the current standout. Last year they won U18 indoor and outdoor nationals, U16 indoor and outdoor nationals and U13 outdoor. Dr Stagno, the director of hockey also is the first team coach at Wimbledon. There are something like 9/10 full time hockey coaches. They have 9 boys playing in the first XI alone who have represented England.

Not so much for boys hockey.
