GCSE Revision

DS is in year 10

A few times I’ve tried to get DS to revise lessons he’s not predicted as highly in but he says he doesn’t know how/what to do beyond reading over his school work, and tbh neither do I!

How do your children revise, and are there any resources anyone could maybe point me to to help me help him?

CGP do fantastic cards for maths and the sciences with questions on one side and answers on the other. Testing oneself is a great way to learn and to remember the details.

CGP revision books and cards.
YouTube videos
Memrise for languages & Latin
Cognito for Maths & Sciences

Making DD make revision cards from the books seems to be better than just staring at them (Amazon sell all the books and colour coded packs of blank revision cards)

There are some great threads on this issue with really good advice @SugarMitts so I would have a search. Good ideas 2 years ago are still good.

But IME the key things are:

  • Short bursts - schedule 15-minute sessions
  • Specifically targeted - not just "French" but "learn the verb aller" or "learn 10 adjectives"
  • Active - not just reading, but rather noting key facts and learning them, or making up a quiz and doing it, or getting you to test him, or explaining it to you. All much better than passive reading.

Yes to CGP revision books. And if any of the subjects is MFL, recording what he wants to learn and listening on the way to school is good. Actually that works for any subject. Probs best if it's not yourself saying it tho - I hate listening to my own voice.
