King Alfred entry at 11+. Anyone gone through it?

King Alfred is my DC’s preferred choice of secondary. She’s on the waiting list at the moment (she’s in year 5) but I am not sure she’ll get a place so will have to do the 11+ entry.

Anyone gone through it? How many apply? What are they looking for really?

Hey @Kas2025 I don't know the school you are referring to - but I just googled and found three schools called King Alfred school/academy, so maybe you should specify which one you mean - then you might get some people answering (people who know more than me obvs!)

I didn’t think about the fact that there is more than one! Yes good point - King Alfred School in Golder’s Green. Thank you!

My DD sat the 11+ this year for a different school . Just to give you an idea to be guaranteed a place , your daughter will need to be ranked A with a score around 213 points, B is a waiting list and C , don’t apply . My DD ranked B, Over 1,100 children applied and sat the test. Could be different , like I say just wanted to give you an idea .

You can get practice papers online too , I would start doing them with her now .

This school is supposedly not academically selective, and is a 4-18 school. They offer a few places at year 7, and there’s a two day selection process if you apply. But it’s not a typical 11+ type scenario, as I’m led to believe.

I know the test is verbal reasoning, but not sure if they are looking for the most academic? The most likely to fit into the school environment socially? A mix of the two?

Not sure what the chances are really. DD does not want to do the 11+ (lots of her friends are and the idea of an exam slightly terrifies her!) and we have narrowed down on King Alfred as it’s not selective and seems to have a v high pastoral care.

Having said that, DD is strong academically, according to her primary school.

Why don't you ask the school directly? They have a unique selection process, so I don't think posters on here are going to fully understand what that encompasses. Good luck to your DD.

@Kas2025 it's my understanding that KAS are looking for a balanced mixed ability cohort in YR 7 and the waiting list is usually very short. They typically only take between 7 - 12 new DC into Year 7, and some years there is no movement on the waiting list at all.
